I. Product Summary
The HZ-1038 Lubricating Grease Cone Penetration Tester is designed and manufactured in compliance with GB/T 269 and ASTM D217 standards. It is suitable for determining the cone penetration of all types of lubricating grease.

II. Test Procedure

Cone Preparation: Carefully clean the cone. If suspended on the holder, avoid rotating it to prevent damage to the release mechanism.

Sample Loading:

Fill the clean grease cup sufficiently with sample. Fill height: ~13 mm (Standard Cone) / ~6 mm (1/4 Cone).

Gently agitate the cup during filling to eliminate entrapped air.

Temperature Conditioning:

Insert the thermometer through the cup's vent hole, positioning its bulb in the sample center.

Place the loaded grease cup into a constant temperature water bath maintained at 25 ± 0.5°C.

Remove the cup once the thermometer reads 25°C.

Sample Working (Shearing):

Press the sample through the orifice 60 times within one minute, returning the orifice plate to the top after each stroke.

Remove the cup. Scrape any grease adhering to the orifice back into the cup as thoroughly as possible.

Surface Preparation:

Gently tap the cup to consolidate the sample.

Using a scraper, fill any surface voids or air pockets formed during working. Minimize agitation during this step.

Holding the scraper at 45°, trim excess sample level with the cup rim.

Penetration Measurement:
A. Setup:
* Mount the cone on the holder.
* Press the manual button to raise the cone. Adjust the gauge to contact the cone holder and zero the display (0.00).
* Place the prepared grease cup on the leveled base.
* Using coarse/fine adjustment, position the cone tip precisely at the sample surface center. For a penetration of ~400, the tip should target the cup center.
* Press start; the locking mechanism will engage after 5 seconds.
B. Reading:
* Slowly lower the gauge until it contacts the cone holder.
* The displayed value (accuracy ±0.1 mm) is the cone penetration of the sample.
