Cable Fault Tester – Causes and Solutions for Leakage Point Detection

There are four main reasons why a cable fault tester may identify a leakage point, along with corresponding solutions:

1. Cable Quality Issues

Cables may have manufacturing defects such as holes, cracks, or bubbles in the insulation material, or insufficient pressure at the interface. These can all lead to internal leakage. Additionally, factors such as aging, moisture, and mechanical damage can also contribute to the formation of leakage points.

Solution: Replace the affected cable or repair the damaged section.

2. Environmental Impact

The working environment plays a significant role in the occurrence of leakage points. Harsh conditions such as high temperature, high humidity, high dust levels, and strong electromagnetic interference can cause the cable's insulation layer to deteriorate, become locally damaged, corroded, or develop leakage.

Solution: If leakage points are found in harsh environments, select a new testing location or make appropriate improvements to the existing environment to increase testing success rates.

3. Equipment Issues

The cable fault tester itself is a highly precise instrument, and occasional equipment problems may lead to false leakage point indications. Examples include unstable power supply voltage, incorrect pressure settings on the measuring equipment, or poor connections.

Solution: Test and verify the relevant parameters of the equipment to ensure its stability and reliability.

4. Operator Error

Incorrect or improper operation of the cable fault tester can also result in misidentification of leakage points. Common issues include failing to follow the instruction manual, incorrect probe placement, or poor contact between the probe and the cable.

Solution: Carefully read the instruction manual and operate the equipment according to the correct procedures. Follow the proper testing process and select the appropriate probe to avoid problems and ensure accurate results.
